I have been on clean intermittent catheterisation (CIC) for about a year now and I keep getting urinary infections roughly every two months. My urologist says my technique is fine.
What has actually worked for people here — changing catheter type, how often you catheterise per day, fluid intake targets, or something else? I am currently doing 4 times a day and drinking maybe 1.5 litres.
Two things moved the needle for me, and neither was the catheter brand.
Also worth ruling out with your urologist: incomplete emptying, bladder stones, and high storage pressures. Recurrent infection every two months is often a mechanical story, not a hygiene story.

Adding a practical note: many people count "an infection" whenever urine looks cloudy or smells strong. Colonisation is normal with CIC and does not by itself need antibiotics. What needs treatment is fever, new spasticity, cloudy urine with systemic symptoms, or feeling unwell.
Treating every cloudy sample with antibiotics is a fast route to resistant organisms, which is a much harder problem than the one you started with.
